Alabama head coach Brad Bohannon argues with umpire Joe Harris after being tossed from the game in the bottom of the second inning against LSU on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Alabama fired baseball coach Brad Bohannon on Thursday with three weeks left in the regular season, Crimson Tide athletic director Greg Byrne announced in a statement.

Byrne said in his statement that Bohannon was let go "for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of university employees."

Assistant coach Jason Jackson was elevated to serve as the team's head coach on an interim basis.

Bohannon spent six seasons as Alabama coach, going 166-124 during his time in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide is 30-15 this season with an SEC mark of 9-12.

Bohannon's dismissal comes after his team was swept in a three-game series last weekend at LSU.

The move comes six days after two large bets were placed in Ohio involving the LSU-Alabama series. Monday, the state of Ohio prohibited its licensed sportsbooks from taking bets on Alabama baseball after reports of "suspicious wagering activity.

Ronnie Johns, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board chairman, said that no irregular betting was suspected in Louisiana and that LSU is not under any scrutiny.

Byrne did not indicate if Bohannon's firing was tied to the bets placed in Ohio, but both The Athletic and D1Baseball reported Thursday that it did play a part in his firing.

Bohannon and two other members of his staff were also sued in April by former baseball player Johnny Blake Bennett for alleged negligence, wantonness and breach of agreement for the handling of an injury.
