Free screenings for hypertension and diabetes will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1615 Poydras St. in the lobby of Fleur de Lis Health Care.

The primary care clinic in the CBD will also be giving Pfizer vaccinations for COVID-19 for those 18 and older, said the owner, Dr. Courtney Washington. Those will be given in the clinic on the 12th floor and are also free of charge. Appointments for the vaccination are recommended, but not required. Call (504) 321-7404.

Information about health and wellness will be offered at the health fair, Washington said, focusing on hypertension, diabetes and diet.

"This year, my goal is to decrease the morbidity and mortality rates" of heart disease by identifying people at risk in New Orleans, Washington said

"With heart disease being the leading cause of death in Louisiana and the United States, I am hoping to screen and bring awareness to preventive measures to mitigate this disease," she added.

For more information about the screening Saturday, a free fitness walk planned in Audubon Park on Jan. 22, and other health and wellness outreach events, visit the clinic website at fdlprimarycare.com.
