A few weeks ago World War II veteran David Dilks, 96, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania had just arrived to New Orleans with Forever Young Veterans, a group specializing in helping veterans return to places they fought or fulfill their wishes with trips to significant sites. On the night before his much-anticipated first visit to the National World War II Museum Dilks fell and broke his hip after checking in to his hotel. He was immediately sent to Ochsner Medical Center where he underwent a partial hip replacement. One of his orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Jim Mautner, who is a veteran of the Gulf War and Afghanistan, hated to see Dilks not make his intended trip, so on Thursday, July 28, 2022 after much rest and recuperation, Dr. Mautner and medical staff from the hospital brought Dilks to the museum so that he could fulfill his wish before returning home.
