About Mrs. Finke

  • A little information...

Mrs. Kathy Finke was born in Washington DC but grew up in Philadelphia. She moved to Abington after she got married. She graduated from Little Flower High School and then Gwynedd Mercy University to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She loves to paint, travel, and doing anything creative and imaginative.

Mrs. Finke has been teaching for 18 years and has found that teaching in a Catholic school is a wonderful experience. She loves teaching religion and it has given her the opportunity to hear students personal experiences with God in their lives as well as their families. She enjoys the things that StJP does as a school community that reach out to other people and organizations to help and lend assistance. She loves teaching Math and Science. It really facinates her when her students approach a Math problem and each solve it so differently. Mrs. Finke remembers the "one way" approach that she was taught which is very different from todays Math classroom. She loves watching her students solve a problem. Science for her is great because of the hands on activities that accompany the many lessons that she teaches. She loves watching each of the students reach their own conclusions!

About Mrs. Phillips

  • A little information...

Mrs. Maureen Phillips was born in Delaware County, and lived there through 9th grade, attending St. Denis Elementary School and Archbishop Prendergast High.  Her family then moved to Northeast Philadelphia where she graduated from St. Hubert High School, and then from Holy Family University with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education.

Maureen has been teaching full time for the last fifteen years at STJP, 10 years in 2nd grade and 5 years in third.  She feels very privileged to have been given the opportunity to teach 4th and 5th grade Science and Social Studies, as well as a 4th grade Religion class,  in the upcoming school year.  She has earned Level 1 and Level 2 Pennsylvania State Certifications and Archdiocesan Religious Education Certification.  Mrs. Phillips has also taught parish PREP classes.  She continues her own education through numerous formal classes and workshops.  Her mission is to pass on her values as a Christian to today’s youth, while helping each student to grow academically and spiritually.

Maureen is married and has 5 grown children, three of whom graduated from Catholic Universities themselves.  In her free time, she enjoys family vacations in Wildwood, NJ, and shopping on QVC.

She loves animals had the opportunity to pet the rhino (named Tony) at the Philadelpia Zoo. Her summer dream job would be to work at the zoo. She loves sharing what she knows about animals. For example, did you know that giraffes only sleep about 10 minutes a day? Fascinating!
